The Great Egg Drop Report

The Great Egg Drop is what it sounds like, you drop an egg. But there is another thing, you have to make sure the egg lands to the ground safely. To do this we make our own little inventions to protect our egg from the impact. Some people tried to cushion the impact, some absorbing. Some people chose just to slow the velocity of the decent. Those are good ideas, but will the result be the one that everyone was hoping for?

This years competitors are Jordan, Johnny, Lizzie, Deja, Hillary and Alice. We did our great drop last Monday. All four had really good ideas. Johnny’s invention had a balloon on the bottom of a plastic plate to cushion and absorb the impact when it hit the ground. He also had two plastic bag parachutes on the side to slow the velocity of the decent. Where his egg went was in a small container filled with glad wrap bags. There was a little flap stuck to it to open and close. A little bit of the material stuck out from the other side of the flap to keep the it closed.

Jordans invention was half of an egg container. He folded it in half so the places where the eggs would go are on the outside, and there is then a small bit in the inside where the egg would go. He also had one plastic bag parachute. Kebab sticks stuck out of it to absorb the impact.

Alices invention was a whole egg carton with glad wrap bags as well to fell the rest of the space she had.

Lizzie’s one was a tomato berry carton with to plastic bag parachutes on the side.

Deja’s one was just a very small container (below) with one parachute. She also had small stuffing inside for the egg.
Hillary’s one was like Deja’s but with a bigger container for the egg.

The results were stunning, 5 inventions out of 6 succeeded. I am not going to name that person, but all of them did really well. It was nerve racking, especially for the competitors, but it ended really well.
